Insider tips for Nuremberg from Park-Hotel Nürnberg
Experience dolphins in their natural surroundings in Nuremberg
Between Zoo and Old Nuremberg: my tip for the forenoon
The excellent, lovingly arranged breakfast at Park Hotel ensures a good-tempered start into the day. With sunshine, you may enjoy our delicacies in the idyllic garden. Then I suggest a visit of Nürnberger Tiergarten in the eastern part of the city. Unique in Germany: in the recently achieved outdoor lagoon of the “Delphinarium”, animals are given a completely natural habitat, including showers of rain. Another point of interest is the jungle-like Manati House accommodating sea-lions and exotic animals.
After Tiergarten, make a promenade across Alt-Mögeldorf, a real idyll at the periphery of the metropolis. Here are noticeable monuments such as St. Nikolaus and St. Ulrich Parish Church, always worth a visit thanks to its art treasures, epitaphs, and the crucifix group in the eastern chancel. Then I recommend a promenade across the adjacent cemetery with its grave stones arranges in the tradition of Johannis and Rochus Cemetery. Then you’ll pass by the magnificent manors of the former Nuremberg patricians and descend via Kirchberg to Satzinger Mühle, an ancient cutting and flour mill.
Enjoying in a proper style: lunch with Franconian specialties
After this extensive promenade, you deserve a short rest. Satzinger Mühle, Kirchenberg 1, accommodates its own restaurant and café with a direct view over Pegnitz River. Alternatively, I’d suggest putting up at the proto-Franconian inn “Doktorshof” at Mögeldorfer Hauptstraße. Also here, you’ll enjoy true Franconian specialties in a proper-style atmosphere.
Museum and sweet delicacies in the afternoon
For the afternoon, I’d suggest you a visit of Germanisches Nationalmuseum. It’s the largest German national museum of international renown and gathers 1.2 million exhibits from the germanophone cultural sphere. The architectural core of this impressing museum is a late medieval monastery complex. My personal tip: with an individual guided tour, you’ll best get familiar with the museum. Also the current exhibitions with changing focuses are always worth a visit. Then I’d suggest a rest at Café Neef, Nuremberg’s sweetest temptation at Winklergasse. This Café will surprise you with delicious cakes in ever-changing variations according to seasons.
Dinner for connoisseurs
For dinner, I like to put up at Bistro A Tavola, in the center of Old Nuremberg. In a relaxed ambiance, one can enjoy a small yet fine selection. No matter if antipasti or main course, fish or pasta: all plates excel by their freshness, refinement, and superior quality. Also in the center, there is Nuremberg’s old Town Hall accommodating the historic restaurant “Zum Spießgesellen”. Here you can enjoy original Franconian delicacies in an atmospheric ambiance. The legendary in the evening Want to experience Nuremberg in a totally different perspective? If so, I’d suggest the evening city tour “Sagenhaft” (=Legendary). Through the atmospheric illumination of Old Nuremberg, you’ll follow the traces of Albrecht Dürer, one of the most famous sons of our city. At “Bar Nürnberg” at Theresienplatz, you may enjoy a stylish end of a perfect day.
