Original Munich flair, pleasure and culture in the town

Pure nature in the centre of Munich

My perfect day begins with a long jog around the palace gardens – simply wonderful in the morning! With a bit of luck you might even see a deer. There couldn’t be more nature in the centre of Munich… Our hotel serves a delicious breakfast buffet tailored to your individual needs, particularly enjoyable after an active start to the day. Afterwards, take a tram straight into Munich’s Old Town with its numerous attractions. One of my personal favourite highlights: Germany’s largest glockenspiel is situated in the roof of the Town Hall. At 11 and 12 o’clock, a total of 43 bells chime here twice a day. One of my other favourite places is the Viktualienmarkt, a particularly beautiful market with numerous stalls and a small beer garden which is worth a visit. Climbing the tower is a must for sporty guests: St. Peter’s Church is situated right next to the market, with 300 steps leading up to the top of the tower. From here you have the best view over the rooftops of Munich.

My midday tip: A hearty lunch in a cult restaurant

The Haxbauer is a genuine traditional Munich restaurant and is therefore a must-visit for locals and visitors. Pork and veal knuckles are slowly grilled over beechwood charcoal to create a crispy, unique delicacy. Ordering is a unique experience here: Guests are offered a variety of samples brought right to the table. The chosen knuckle is then served in traditional style and paid for in weight.

A visit to the Wittelsbachs

In the afternoon I recommend visiting the Wittelsbach residence, which was turned into a museum for the public in 1920 and is now one of Europe’s most significant castle museums. In good weather a visit to the famous Eisbach river is a must – don’t miss the surfers here. Munich is known to surfers worldwide for its “Eisbachwelle” (Eisbach wave) at the Haus der Kunst (House of Art). An additional flagship of the city: The Englisher Garten is where people meet to take a long walk or simply relax – the large green gardens have been part of Munich citizens’ daily life for 225 years, believe it or not. More attractions can be found here, such as the famous Chinesische Turm and Seehaus beer gardens at the Kleinhesseloher See lake.

An absolute must: An evening in the beer garden

A cosy evening in the beer garden – does it get better than that? During the season a visitor to a genuine beer garden is an absolute must for every Munich visit. My personal tip: The “Königliche Hirschgarten” is just a short walk from the hotel, and with around 800 seats is the largest beer garden not only in Munich, but in all of Bavaria. The name says it all: The Hirschgarten (deer garden) is situated in an idyllic location next to a wildlife reserve and the “Königlich” (royal) refers to its noble past. The Wittelsbach family would hold family celebrations here in the early centuries. The palatable Augustiner beer is served here straight from the wooden barrel.

A wonderful evening at Nymphenburg Palace

Various concerts are held here all year round in the Hubertussaal hall of the magnificent Nymphenburg Palace – at warmer times of year as well as during the Munich Open Air summer. However, it is still worth a visit outside of the open air season: The impressive architecture and magnificent grounds create a wonderful ambience.
