Insider tips for Nuremberg from Hotel Marienbad Nürnberg
The world’s biggest Bratwurst-restaurant in Nuremberg
The forenoon: discover Old Nuremberg
For our guests, the perfect day commences of course with a hearty breakfast at Hotel Marienbad. To those wanting to omit breakfast I recommend a trip to the center. “Café Bar Celona” is famous for its excellent brunch. The abundant offer leaves nothing to be desired and this popular venue is the ideal place for a dynamic start into the new day. No matter where you enjoy your breakfast – the following program item should be a discovery of Nuremberg’s center. When the shops are opening one after the other and the city is awaking, this is to me the most beautiful time of the day. At 10 AM, the manifold shops invite for an atmospheric shopping tour.
My tip for lunch: putting up at “Bratwurst Röslein”
My perfect day includes also a hearty Franconian lunch. My relative tip: Pay a visit to “Bratwurst Röslein”! Since 1431, this traditional inn has been offering its guests a fresh, regional cuisine in the heart of the city. At the world’s largest bratwurst restaurant, the choice is quite clear – it must be original Nuremberg bratwursts! While having lunch, you can watch the busy Hauptmarkt in a relaxed manner. Nobody leaves “Röslein” still hungry: food is rapidly served, absolutely delicious, and moreover inexpensive!
A round tour in the afternoon
After lunch, one should visit Stadtmuseum Fembohaus, in immediate vicinity of the bratwurst restaurant. Then I’d suggest a little postprandial walk to the famous castle. From there, you’ll enjoy a great panoramic view over Nuremberg and its surroundings. Afterwards, the idyllic St. Sebald quarter with its numerous bridges is worth a discovery. While returning you should absolutely make a stop at Café Lucas. You’ll enjoy your coffee on a dreamlike terrace, suspended over Pegnitz River.
Franconian delight: my suggestion for dinner
For dinner, I recommend you the “Schäufelewärtschaft” spoiling its guests with typical Franconian cuisine. In the beautiful south of the city, far away from touristic streams, they offer very good, fresh, and inexpensive food. A particular specialty: “Schäufele”, a flat shoulder of pork with dumplings and salad. It’s perfectly accompanied by the delicious beer specialties from Nuremberg and surroundings. A worth-visiting alternative is “Böhm´s Herrenkeller”, a true insiders’ tip as to Franconia’s gastronomy. Here they offer fish, salad, and Nuremberg’s specialties within a good middle-class ambiance, where it happens that the patron mimes Hans Sachs. With a piece of good fortune, you’ll assist at a performance of lieder and poems of the songs of the famous son of Nuremberg…
An evening program for any taste
Nuremberg and Franconia have a lot to offer to their guests. Just a look at the cultural program shows the many opportunities for an evening program. I recommend you for instance an evening at Nuremberg’s Opera House or one of the different theaters visit. Fans of Comedy and Cabaret get their money’s worth at “Komödie Fürth”, just a short drive away from Nuremberg. And for tasty cocktails, you should absolutely visit the “Seon Bar” at Augustinerstraße. Most different variations for any taste are available there.
