Insider tips for Salzburg from Hotel & Villa Auersperg
Enjoy culture and nature during a city trip to Salzburg
Extensive discovery tour: My tip for the morning
I love to spend my days off on a small jogging tour through the beautiful old town. My tip for sports fans: run along Hellbrunner Allee or risk to climb up on Kapuzinerberg. The way leads along picturesque Linzergasse up to the monastery and then back via Linzergassentreppe. Refreshed for a first-class breakfast the “Wiesinger’s” enjoy the terrace of Café Bazar, where they always serve fresh meals of best quality. My very personal favorite breakfast is composed of a roll with butter, a soft-boiled egg, a croissant, an orange juice and the daily paper. Afterwards, I end off the morning with an extensive walk through town, past Papagenoplatz, through Kaiviertel and up to the castle.
Design on the mountain: Lunch at m32
It is also worth to make a short climb for lunch time: m32 on Mönchsberg rewards its guests and visitors with a fantastic panoramic view, unique even in Salzburg! Another highlight of this state-of-the-art and trendy restaurant is the one-of-a-kind atmosphere which has been created by renowned designer Mattheo Thun. Traditional elements such as the deer antler are combined with modern materials – all with a certain portion of irony. The menu also knows how to excite guests – with creative, delicious dishes – just perfect for a short lunch break on the mountain.
In rain and sunshine: The perfect afternoon in Salzburg
I have prepared even two suggestions for the afternoon – depending on the weather conditions. Although there is no wrong weather as you might know: with the right tips, the afternoon program won’t fall through for sure. My very personal tip for rain and cloudy skies is a visit to the museum of modernity. The spectacular building already makes the walk worthwhile. Inside visitors get to see exhibits from the museum’s large collection – from pictures and drawings to sculptures, photographs and new media. After a long tour the lift takes you down again – now it’s the perfect time for a short siesta in your hotel room! When the sun is shining, go to Hellbrunn by boat or bike, where you can sit comfortably in the shadow on the beautiful and large lawn. Those who want to do something good for their health and well-being also find a Kneipp pool here – great refreshment, particularly in summer. My tip: if you go by bike, make a stop at Greislerei von Gössl on your way home, where a nice glass of wine or a cup of coffee awaits you in a wonderful setting and a fantastic panoramic view.
Austrian specialties in the evening
As an Austrian woman I particularly appreciate our authentic traditional cuisine. A perfect day in Salzburg would not be complete without a typical dinner – enjoy a “Tafelspitz” at beautiful Schloss Aigen or at bustling “Triangel”, for instance.
Pure culture: My suggestion for an evening program
Before and after dinner I suggest visiting JEDERMANN. The festival event lures numerous guests to town every year. When the sun is shining, standing room tickets that are available behind Franziskanerkirche on the day of the performance (further information are online), are a great insider tip! As an alternative, I recommend the Mozarteum, the Regional Theatre or the cultural film center DAS KINO. To round off a perfect day, why not enjoy a nice glass of wine on Tomaselli or Demel terrace.
