Insider tips for Zurich from Hotel Zuercherhof
A stroll through Zurich’s most exciting quarters
Zurich at its best! My perfect morning
My plan for a perfect morning in the city is quite simple: Zurich at its best! To experience the city at its best, take a long walk along the streets and narrow lanes. A pleasant stroll through the Old Town leads through areas such as Niederndorf, Hirschenplatz, Oberdorf and all of the side streets, where there is always something awaiting discovery. And if you decide to have breakfast elsewhere other than at the Zürcherhof then I recommend a visit to Café Schober: This café features excellent architecture, cool decor and a history dating back to the year 1842.
Excellent food, fantastic views: Lunch at the Hotel Storchen
For lunch there is only one place worth visiting in my opinion: The Hotel Storchen is situated right on the Limmat river! Here you can enjoy excellent cuisine with the best views of the Old Town, where the river flows right past. Anyone travelling by water can make use of the hotel’s own boat landing. The hotel’s excellent bar is worth a visit even at a late hour.
Stroll through Zurich’s trendiest quarter
Why only see what is listed in a travel guide? I like to visit Zurich’s west region in the afternoon. The former industrial quarter is the up-and-coming area: New, trendy places are springing up for socialising, eating and shopping. Regardless whether you want to take a stroll through the urban, trendy shopping mile, enjoy a coffee or snack under the arches on the Viadukt or discover contemporary art: Everything here is local, home-made and hip!
Razzia or Kronenhalle: My evening tips
Zurich has something to offer everyone. What shall it be today – a classical dinner in the Kronenhalle, one of the city’s most legendary restaurants? The Kronenhalle is THE place to be; a place to see and be seen. Genuine works by Miró and Chagal adorn the walls, and exquisite top-quality home-made cuisine is served on beautifully decorated tables. The Seefeld Quarter offers a complete contrast, where the Razzia can be found. This magnificent restaurant is situated inside a former silent film cinema with a unique interior in the halls – spectacular! The food here is also top-quality, characterised by international dishes such as falafel and thai curry.
Evening stroll between the lake and Old Town
For me the perfect day ends like it began: With a good walk! In the evening this takes me from the lake to the central train station, along the Zürcher shopping mile with its pretty side streets, finally coming to the other side of the Limmat to Lindenhof, an idyllic area with plenty of greenery. On mild summer evenings you can relax underneath the trees by the water.
