Insider tips for Innsbruck from Hotel Zach
Nature, culture and pleasure within one day in Innsbruck
Breakfast to go with a panoramic view
For a perfect day, I devise a very special breakfast experience: armed with a lovingly packed lunch from our first-class breakfast team and a perfect coffee to go from our Lavazza coffee machine, I take the first cable car of modern Hungerburg funicular. Arrived on top, I enjoy the tremendous panoramic view over the city of Innsbruck, the surrounding mountains reaching to Brenner and Wipptal. And even our brightly blue-painted Hotel Zach is still visible!
Austrian delights – with kit and caboodle!
My suggestion for noon: don’t fail to enjoy a good Wiener schnitzel with potato salad in one of the numerous traditional restaurants in Old Innsbruck! To me personally, lunch break becomes most beautiful when my daughter Matilda and our twins Valentin and Zeno are of the party. In good company, good Austrian cuisine obviously tastes most nice.
Zoo and shopping tour: my program for the afternoon
In the afternoon, two completely different experiences are on the program. To families with kids and those young at heart, I’d suggest e.g. an excursion to Alpenzoo, the highest situated zoo of Europe with its wonderful, near-natural grounds. The name is its program: animals from the Alpine regions are at home there, from bearded vultures to chamois and brown bears. Later on, I like to start an extended shopping tour across busy Maria-Theresien-Straße. Among noble boutiques and popular stores, there is no doubt something for all tastes. My very personal favorite: department store “Tyrol” leaving absolutely nothing to be desired.
The perfect dinner – both in summer and in winter!
For the evening, I have also two quite different suggestions – depending on weather conditions. I like to spend mild summer nights with a good talk and a glass of wine in one of the nice sidewalk cafés in the center. During cold winter months however, I prefer to stop by the cozy tavern of Evi at Gasthof Lärchenwald where we enjoy small and large delicacies in a typical ambiance.
More culture: my suggestion for a perfect evening in Innsbruck
I use to round off my perfect day with a performance at Tiroler Landestheater ensuring high-scale cultural experiences thanks to its international ensemble. At the main hall or in the intimate theater, with stage plays or opera productions: the bulging event calendar offers the right event for all preferences!
