Insider tips for Vienna from Austria Classic Hotel Wien
Enjoy the typical flair of Vienna’s coffee houses
Extended walk across Vienna
At our Austria Classic Hotel Vienna, you’ll enjoy breakfast on the snug, tranquil terrace in the inner courtyard. Then we suggest you take an extensive promenade across the 1st district, passing by Urania and Parkring. The first program item should be a visit of the famous Johann Strauß monument and the Kursalon. Kursalon is a magnificent historic building in Italian Renaissance style with a nice terrace in front of the park. The attached park complex is considered the green lung of the city. Our promenade will lead you via Stubentor to “Café Prückl”, a very cozy, typical Viennese coffee house with proper style furnishings. Then head along Wollzeile, one of the city’s oldest and most traditional shopping malls, passing by “Café Diglas” towards Stephansplatz. We recommend you a visit of the Cathedral as well as an ascent on the tower. From here, Kärntner Straße goes towards State Opera (popular pedestrian zone and shopping mall). Via Weihburggasse, at the left of Kärntner Straße, you reach Franziskanerplatz – where you may admire the homonymous church equipped with Vienna’s oldest organ. Then, we suggest some refreshment at “Kleines Café” which actually deserves its name. This amazing little coffee house is the ideal place to enjoy a “Melange” or an “Einspänner”. Then back to Stephansplatz, via Graben to Kohlmarkt. We pass by beautiful historic buildings and modern designer-shops. From here, we head to Hofburg Palace – those having plenty of time may visit sites of interest such as Schatzkammer, Sisi Museum, or Spanish Riding School.
Lunch at “Schwarzes Kameel”
For lunch, choose “Schwarzes Kameel” close to Graben, at Bognergasse. The delicatessen department with a stand-up bar was purveyor to the court as soon as in 1825 and many famous artists were among his habitués. The entire city meets here in a pleasant atmosphere – tourists and natives, the enamored ones and businessmen – for a typical Viennese snack lunch and a cold drink. Then head to the city’s best ice cream at Eissalon Tuchlauben. Our tip: Don’t miss the nougat and mango cream – you won’t be sorry!
Promenade in the afternoon
Our round tour includes Hoher Markt, one of Vienna’s most history-charged squares. Here you’ll find the famous “Wedding Fountain” and the unique “Anchor Clock” as well as the best wurst stand of the city serving its clientele until dawn. Then we go via Judengasse to the so-called “Bermuda Triangle”, a scene quarter of the city, passing by St. Ruprecht Church via Franz-Josefs-Kai to Schwedenplatz. Here we cross the river using Schwedenbrücke towards multi-cultural Karmelitermarkt. If there’s time left, you may pay a visit to baroque Augarten Park and palace accommodating “Wiener Sängerknaben” as well as to the famous porcelain manufacture and a nice Café-Restaurant. Your tour ends at your hotel where you may enjoy some rest.
Dinner at “Geschmacks-Tempel”
Our personal tip for dinner: Restaurant “Geschmacks-Tempel”, directly at Praterstraße and just a one minute walk from the hotel. Fine Viennese cuisine offers original delicacies with no frills – the ideal thing after an exciting day in Vienna. Especially recommendable: the evening menu accompanied by suitable wines. Furthermore, we appreciate the relaxed, calm atmosphere at “Tempel”, as well as the hidden garden in the quiet courtyard.
Expedition across Vienna by night
After dinner, one should promenade from the hotel to famous Viennese Prater – using the Giant Wheel, you’ll enjoy a splendid view over nocturnal lit Vienna. Those preferring so can plan a short tour across Prater. From here, night-owls head to Onyx Bar at Do&Co Hotel (Haas Haus) at Stephansplatz Square. Here one enjoys delicious cocktails while having the well-nigh optimum view over St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the roofs of the city. Here one can perfectly terminate a many-faceted day.
