Insider tips for Salzburg from Das Grüne Hotel zur Post
Salzburg – nature and culture in perfect combination
Art, fine food and nature: My tip for the morning
For the morning, I thought of a very special highlight. You would like to enjoy a tasty breakfast with art as a side-dish? Then you are exactly right at restaurant m32 at the “Museum der Moderne”. Refreshment is just perfect before and after a round tour – and by the way, you also have a spectacular view from here! The way continues to be mountainous as we are getting closer to Untersberg Mountain, which is about 1,800 meter high. Filled up with energy, one can get a great foretaste of the magnificent Salzburg nature. The way up with the Untersberg mountain cable car alone is a real event for many people and there is one or another adrenalin rush when looking at the deep gorges. Up on the mountain you can enjoy a great panoramic view over the city of Salzburg and its surroundings and if you want to be active you can walk up to the summit cross. A climb up there is worth it in two ways: the ride up with the cable car is also included in your SalzburgCard.
Mountain pasture flair right in the heart of the city
Even though Salzburg is a city, this does not mean that you cannot breathe a bit of alpine air! Up on one of our urban mountains, namely Mönchsberg, you can enjoy your well-earned lunch at “Stadtalm“. This restaurant serves everything your heart desires, from a cold snack to roast pork, over the roofs of Salzburg. A garden with a wonderful panoramic view is included in every meal!
Afternoon at “Leopoldskroner Weiher”
Leopoldskroner Weiher is Salzburg’s equivalent to New York’s Central Park. The beautiful nature reserve is right in the heart of the city and is a popular meeting point for families and sportsmen, walkers, fishermen as well as ice-skaters in winter. The view is completely idyllic: Magnificent Schloss Leopoldskron thrones on the shores of the pond, where proud grey and mandarin ducks as well as swans are swimming on the water. I have as much as three insider tips for this very special place for you: Those who don’t want to miss their jogging tour during their holiday will find a wonderful route through the little forest next to the lake. Shadowy trees and a natural ground make this run a real pleasure. Children can run riot to their heart’s content on the playground and the adjacent open-air swimming-pool Leopoldskron, affectionately referred to as “Lepi” by locals, lures people for a refreshment in summer. Vast sunbathing areas, pools, water slides and a diving platform leave nothing to be desired.
Delicious food at “Gasthaus Kuglhof”
After an eventful day your stomach wants nothing more than a great, hearty, traditional Austrian meal. Gasthof Kuglhof is a real insider tip that offers excellent cuisine in large portions. My suggestion: Enjoy the restaurant’s great meals in the wonderful garden! Sunset dunks this romantic place into a really magical atmosphere. During fair weather, the hosts like to make barbecues – and not only lovers of meat will feel like on a culinary cloud number nine then…
Small but nice: Salzburg at night time
Even if Salzburg is not particularly big – the city’s night life if still quite respectable! I very much recommend visiting “Weisse”, a beer garden with restaurant at Rupertgasse 10, for instance, where one can enjoy a good glass of wheat beer or the venue’s diversified program with highlights such as ‘Almrausch’. Both locals and visitors get their money’s worth during one of the trendy clubbing nights in the original “Trachten” look.
