On foot and by bicycle

For our guests, the perfect day obviously starts with a copious breakfast at Hotel UHU: fresh bread and fine pastry from the “true” baker, plenty of spread and fruit, accompanied by organic tea or fair-trade coffee, herald the start of their vacation. From here, you reach, in just eleven minutes by commuter train, Köln-Deutz. Cross the Rhine with its beautiful banks via Hohenzollern Bridge, that is cluttered with love padlocks. Love birds make a stop and hang their own padlock onto the railing.

On the other side you find the city’s landmark: Cologne Cathedral. Take a moment to let the magnificence of the historic building unfold. Then you can rent a bicycle and explore the city in the probably most beautiful way – as the mood takes you. Along the Rhine river banks you may cycle for hours.

Lunch? At a brewery pub!

My suggestion for a hearty lunch: just select one among Cologne’s brewery pubs and savor a delicious “Himmel un Ääd“ – a traditional dish consisting of mashed potatoes and apple sauce with blood sausage – in a typical atmosphere. You may alternatively order a portion of “Reibekuchen” (potato pancake) – the vegetarian version, so to speak. Then discover what Cologne’s retail sector still offers: strolling across the triangle between Neumarkt, Rudolfplatz, and Friesenwall, you’ll find bargains as well as noble und rare products.

Conclusion in proper style

For a perfect day, you should allow yourself a very special dinner. To this effect, we can offer two suggestions: have a good time with Joel at “Dröppelminna“ in Herrenstrunden. The restaurant is situated a bit out of town but the trip is definitely worth it! Here they celebrate the refined cuisine served in multiple courses and changing menus. Or confide in Mario who pampers his guests in his “Casa di Biase“ at Eifelplatz with Italian charm and adequate cuisine.

For the conclusion of a nice evening, we like to stroll along the Rhine or beneath the crane houses and enjoy the view of the new Rhine Boulevard.
