Croissant and Kutschkermarkt: my suggestions for the morning
When not enjoying our hotel breakfast, I feel like eating a crispy croissant at StadtCafé. It is just two minutes from the hotel and captivates through its amazing mix of retro-style furniture and a touch of modern glamour. By the way, it is also suitable for a coffee break – thanks to in-house coffee roasting! Not just during the summer months, Kutschkermarkt is always worth a visit. As one of Vienna’s last historic street markets, it offers the full selection of fine delicacies including regional and international, bio and slow food.
Färbergasse: a paradise for vegetarians
A healthy, fresh, fast, and preferably vegetarian lunch – that’s what I look for at noon. My suggestion: the neighborhood around Färbergasse is known for its numerous vegetarian and even vegan cafés and restaurants. This is very agreeable for those heading back to work!
Authentic coffeehouse flair: Where the “Mélange” tastes nice
Vienna is known for its legendary cafés and the related “coffeehouse culture”. Those having plenty of time can readily spend there a whole afternoon, read a good book or a newspaper, or simply enjoy the particular atmosphere. A Viennese café is furthermore the ideal place for a rest after a tour across the city: a revitalizing “Mélange” at Café Korb is an authentic experience par excellence. And history-charged Café Central with its splendid columns and round arches is also absolutely worth a visit.
Dinner: three favorites for most different tastes
Provided the weather is fine, I prefer outdoor dining at Rudolfsplatz where the “Stopfer” with its pub garden is the right venue. Here one finds on the menu Austrian delicacies including the famous pastries in a contemporary interpretation. To those keener on Asian delicacies, I recommend the “Momoya” at Börsengasse – with a selection ranging from Thai Curry to Sushi as well as a traditional, regularly used table-top barbecue (Teppanyaki). My absolute favorite, however, is the “Appiano” at Schottenbastei where they serve regional and Mediterranean cuisine in an atmospheric ambiance.
Where the sundowner tastes best
A glass of Crémant sparkling wine at the “Beaulieu” is particularly relaxing in the evening. Subsequently, one could go to one of the numerous bars or galleries of the city – Vienna boasts a huge selection – or pay a visit to the legendary “Bermuda Triangle“, the trendiest neighborhood of the 1st district – the ideal place for those wanting to socialize.
