Insider tips for Vienna from Hotel Kugel
Schnitzel, apple strudel and opera – a day in Vienna
City stroll across historic Vienna
Our suggestion for the morning: extended city stroll across historic Vienna! Via Siebensterngasse, we walk towards Raimundhaus and continue our promenade over the art nouveau stairs down to Laimgrube and directly to Naschmarkt. 1001 delicacies from all over the world wait for being discovered – and as the name suggests: testing pays off! We feel first attracted by Café Drechsler for a coffee break; then we indulge ourselves a stroll across the famous market in the mid of its splendid art nouveau backdrop. From there, we walk through picturesque Burggarten to Hofburg Palace and then to Albertina Museum that’s of course worth a visit.
Schnitzel and apple strudel: the perfect lunch in Vienna
For noontime, it should be good Austrian cuisine. Our very personal favorite is “Meierei” at historic Stadtpark. Here we enjoy a greatly crispy Wiener schnitzel and then a fresh apple strudel from the oven. Simply perfect!
Art appreciation in the afternoon
Up for some art and culture? In the afternoon, our stroll leads us via famous Ring Boulevard to Kunsthistorisches Museum. Its unparalleled collections suggest longer visits – it’s actually impossible to see them all! From the collection of antiques to the paintings gallery, from the Egyptian collection to Kunstkammer Wien – culture freaks get their money’s worth there! Beyond the collections, the museum offers changing special exhibitions which are worth a visit, too. Those not wanting to explore the museum on their own can participate in one of the numerous guided tours – including a short noontime tour for the hurried ones. For refreshment, we have a snack with Sacher Würstel at Museums-Café.
Dinner under the open sky – our suggestion for the evening
When something very particular is needed and weather permitting, we like to enjoy a marvelous dinner under the open sky at Spittelberg. For our “sundowner”, we head to Museum quarter where we conclude the culinary part of the evening in a stylish way before dedicating ourselves once more to art appreciation.
Crowning conclusion: opera live and for free
The crowning conclusion of a perfect day consists in musical delectations – and this completely for free. Nearby the world-renowned opera house, we enjoy a live transmission from the concert hall and sit ourselves down on one of the numerous seating accommodations. After an unforgettable opera performance under the open sky, we calmly stroll via Maria-Theresien-Park, Museum quarter and Spittelberg straightaway back to Hotel Kugel.
