Stroll along the former splendid boulevard

In the past, anyone who was anyone would stroll along Kurfürstendamm. The Ku’damm, as everyone calls it, was once one of the most magnificent boulevards of the Weimar Republic. Even today you can find here numerous luxury labels and designer boutiques, as well as delicatessens, restaurants, and star hairdressers. A perfect start to the day therefore begins with breakfast at Pension Funk before heading out for a stroll along Berlin’s most famous shopping street in the west of the city. In addition to fine and affordable addresses, one can also discover numerous architectural highlights, culture and history here. Magnificent facades, spacious sidewalks and avenue trees still give a hint of the old splendor.

Lunch break in the Gründerzeit villa

The Literaturhaus Berlin is always worth a visit. Not only because of the extensive program of readings and discussions, but also thanks to the bookstore Kohlhaas & Company, which is located directly in the house.  A third good reason for a visit to our “neighbors” directly opposite the hotel pension is the Café-Restaurant Wintergarten. My hint: Treat yourself to a short lunch break in the beautiful Gründerzeit villa, which is complemented by an idyllic garden during the warm season. In the historic ambience, you can enjoy warm bistro cuisine from the seasonally changing menu.

Afternoon program? Rather individually!

Whatever you’re in the mood for, in Berlin everyone can put together their own personal program. Even after many years, you will always discover surprising, new and still unknown things here. The cultural offer alone is huge – the city counts a whole 175 museums, from the Pergamon Altar to contemporary art, from the Medical Collection to the Memorial. In addition, there are cultural centers, Off-spaces, cinemas and private art galleries. Alternatively, you can just let yourself drift, discover the very different neighborhoods or relax in one of Berlin’s many parks when the weather is nice. Or you can join an individual city tour.

My favorite place: Old Berlin cuisine in the evening

Dark walls with portraits of artists, cozy lighting and hearty food: The “Diener Tattersall” directly at Savignyplatz is a real Old Berlin pub, somewhere between a pub and a restaurant, and also a favorite place of creative personalities and other individualists for more than 120 years. The food is hearty home-style cooking, from pancakes and stew to minced pork. The drinks are also true to the style: Here, for example, you order Schultheiss or Berliner Weisse with woodruff.

A tribute to the 20s

The crowning finale to a perfect day in Berlin in the footsteps of the 1920s? A visit to the Bohème Sauvage party. Dance music with live band, burlesque performances and absinthe bar will immerse you in the legendary nightlife of that era. Those who do not have a suitable wardrobe can rent a suit, dress or accessories in advance at “Le Boudoir”. The specialty store offers a huge selection of fashion from the 20s and 30s and opens in the days before the dance events.
