Insider tips for Vienna from Hotel Stefanie
Admire Vienna from the tower of St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Sightseeing by streetcar: my suggestion for the morning
Newcomers should first get an overview. A special opportunity for this purpose is provided by the new sightseeing streetcar trudging round the numerous sights within a round tour. Hotel guests should board it at Schwedenplatz Square to enjoy the great view – using, on demand, a great Audio Guide with original Viennese dialect! After that, I recommend them a stroll across the narrow streets of the first district, towards St. Stephen’s Cathedral. My tip: one should absolutely climb the northern tower by foot and experience Vienna’s magnificence from bird’s eye view! From here, you may promenade via Kärntner Straße featuring elegant shops towards Karlsplatz Square and Naschmarkt Market.
Mere variety: lunch hour at Naschmarkt
After an extended promenade, I’d suggest a culinary break at famous Naschmarkt. This market is considered a true Viennese institution and prime address for both visitors and natives coming there for having lunch. Really everybody get’s his money’s worth: there is a huge selection offering the right thing for all tastes. Coming there, you’ll experience Vienna from its most generous side – and have the feel as if monarchy with all its treasures hasn’t come to an end…
Afternoon program with cultural & culinary highlights
Even if you are not really among the enthusiastic museum visitors – Vienna’s museum landscape offers several highlights one must have seen at least once! These highlights include for example KHM (Museum of Art History), thanks to its impressing collection of classical artworks an absolute must for any Vienna visitor. As an alternative, you may want to stroll through MUQ (museums quarter) MQ (Museum Quarter) that is in itself worth a visit. Many culinary highlights string together – ideal for all those wanting to make a coffee break or savor a snack ideal.
Bohemian or gourmet cuisine – dinner for all tastes
After an exciting day in beautiful Vienna, you should take time enough for some hearty refreshment. If you want to meet me, here my very personal suggestion: “Nordpol” tavern is situated in the 2nd district, at just 10 minutes walking distance from Hotel Stefanie. Here one enjoys original Bohemian food on a quality level beyond all comparison in Vienna. True gourmets will also get their money’s worth at Restaurant Schick. Beyond its first-class cuisine, this small yet refined inn situated on the 12th floor offers a fantastic view over Vienna by night.
One for the road close to your hotel: the Bermuda Triangle
To those not in the vein for going home after dinner I recommend taking one for the road in the legendary Bermuda Triangle. This neighborhood has its name not by chance – here you may “disappear” for some hours and have a lot of fun. When I’ve got an evening off from work, I prefer going to the “First Floor”. It’s very convenient – just a five minutes walk to Hotel Stefanie!
