Insider tips for Nuremberg from Hotel Elch Botique
Strolling, shopping and enjoying in Nuremberg
Round tour with a view: my tip for the forenoon
For the morning, I recommend an extensive tour across beautiful Old Nuremberg. The perfect invigoration is of course provided at Hotel Elch where a hearty breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. Subsequently, promenade to Burgberg with the Albrecht Dürer House. The name is motto: “Café Wanderer” at Albrecht Dürer Platz invites to a short rest with a Cappuccino. From here, continue your promenade to Nuremberg’s Kaiserburg (=imperial castle) whose panorama platform offers a dreamlike view. This is the ideal place to make some beautiful souvenir photos above the roofs of the city.
Nuremberg’s specialties for lunch
What would a Nuremberg trip be without enjoying good Franconian cuisine? My personal tip: put up at restaurant “Bratwursthäuschen” in the shadow of St. Sebaldus Church. Here are served original Nuremberg bratwursts on proper style pewter plates perfectly accompanied by a cold draft beer. The original ambiance exhales the genuine flair of a typical Nuremberg inn!
Strolling across Germany’s longest shopping mall
Spend the afternoon on Germany’s longest shopping mall, in the heart of Old Nuremberg. There are worthwhile shops for all tastes and budgets: little boutiques as well as large megastores and chain-stores of well-known fashion designers. To those needing a recovery, I’d suggest a stay at one of the numerous cafés on site. My personal favorite: the “Black Bean” at Ludwigsplatz 2. Beside tasty coffee and Aperol spritzer, they serve delicious sandwiches to cheat your hunger.
Dinner at “Albrecht Dürer Stube”
For dinner, there is no better choice than “Albrecht Dürer Stube” situated on the homonymous street. My tip: don’t forget to reserve your table in advance! The owner does the cooking himself – his repeatedly rewarded restaurant spoils its guests with regional and seasonal, always fresh products. Another plus: a variegated clientele and a more than fair price-performance ratio.
Start into night-life
From the restaurant, there is a promenade via Hauptmarkt and Heiliggeistspital which leads you directly to”Rote Bar”. “Rote Bar” is a popular venue for the young and the young at heart, for scene freaks, tourists, and night owls. Cocktails are particularly tasty – hardly surprising, considering the careful preparation and optimum ingredients! At the same time, this bar is the ideal starting point for enjoying Nuremberg’s night-life. Within a few minutes, you’ll find the right place no matter what you prefer: in Clubs such as “Mitte”, “Stereo” or “Mach1” they dance at tall hours, and those preferring a rustic style are dead on target at “Pillhofer” inn.
