Insider tips for Vienna from Hotel Zipser
Walking through the city centre and then to a Heuriger
Promenade across the Museum Quarter: my suggestion for the forenoon
For me, an ideal morning commences with a promenade across the Museum Quarter. The situation of this quarter, just in front of Kunsthistorisches Museum and Naturhistorischem Museum, is simply unique. Arriving there, you may put up at Café Leopold to enjoy a good coffee and read a newspaper. Then head to Vienna’s Naschmarkt where one finds a variety of culinary offers on vegetable, meat, and fish stands – simply the ideal opportunity for combining breakfast and brunch!
Lunch at Burggarten
One of the most beautiful places for having lunch: the Palmenhaus in Vienna’s Burggarten. The place itself is worth a longer stay – the historic palace surrounded by a magnificent park attracts thousands of visitors, year by year. But also the attached restaurant is worth a side-trip: behind the Hofburg Palace, one enjoys an excellent cuisine on the spacious terrace. A special plus is the great view over Burggarten with its unique vegetation – with fair weather an unforgettable experience!
Extended city tour in the afternoon
For the afternoon, I recommend you an extended city tour. Head to Freyung Square from where you can reach, via Kohlmarkt and Graben, St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Here you could make a short stop to for visit this impressing building. On the way, there are numerous possibilities for a little rest: at “Schwarzes Kameel”, for instance, you can appease your hunger with some sandwiches and a glass of Prosecco. In a small by-street, there is the unpronounceable “Trzesniewski” where people enjoy particularly good spreads with a “Pfiff” (=small beer). Then your way, passing by St. Stephen’s Cathedral, leads you to the Danube Canal. The canal banks invite for a nice promenade with a putting up at one of the numerous inns by the wayside.
Stylish dinner at a Heuriger
What would a stay in Vienna be without putting up at a Heuriger? These original taverns are so to speak the symbol of the city – guests and natives gather there to enjoy the delicacies of regional cuisine – the ideal place to terminate a beautiful day in a snug atmosphere. My very personal hint: in Neustift am Walde or in Grinzing, there are still some worthwhile insiders tips off the beaten tourist paths.
Mere culture: my suggestion for the evening
In the evening, Vienna is once more on the best of its behavior: numerous events and leisure activities, available all year round, permit unique experiences. In my view, Vienna’s Rathausplatz is the best starting point; most different events take place here, according to season. The ever-changing cultural highlights captivate both tourists and Viennese people. During summer, for instance, you should pay a visit to the Film Festival, and during winter, the different Xmas markets are a very popular venue. And distances are always short: a few minutes from your hotel, there are numerous atmospheric hotspots.
